Is What You Do, What You’ve Been Called To?

I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying, “Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life.”

Well in a lot of ways that’s a true statement. However now well on the other side of my decision to begin working for myself full time, I can tell you that some days it feels like passion, and some days it feels like work.

What keeps me motivated is the sense of satisfaction that I experience in knowing that I am doing what I have been placed on this planet to do. Also the fact that I absolutely love it when I get to help others succeed.

So during those days in which I am tempted to become frustrated, I remind myself of why I’m doing this in the first place.

I remind myself of how important it was for me to honor my desire to experience the freedom of working from home, or while on the beach, from any Panera Bread or Starbucks Coffee Shop I choose, at the library, at my sweetie’s place, or where ever I happen to be that day.

For me, going to work means having my laptop, my iPad, my smart phone, a preferably FREE WIFI connection, and zero traffic. The work I do is aligned with my definition of happiness and success.

Look at the work that you do each and every day.  Is it your life’s calling, or is it just a job?  Having a sense of purpose, believing that the work you do every day fulfills a greater purpose, beyond a paycheck, is essential to your overall level of happiness and fulfillment. In fact, when you believe that the work you do is actually your life’s calling, it triggers happiness. Having a “calling” also boosts happiness in other areas of your life, helping to define the meaning of your life, and giving you balance.

Granted you may be working on a job right now because you have to, you have bills to pay, mouths to feed, and that’s totally ok.  By all means, do what you have to do to make ends meet, but don’t ever feel as if you must abandon your passion.  Honor your desire to work your passion by developing a plan to get you from where you are, to where you want to be. Save money, eliminate debt, begin part-time, do something every day that moves you closer to achieving your ultimate desire.

Here are 3 things that you can start doing RIGHT NOW in order to begin working your passion:

1. Find a mentor. Connect with someone who is already doing what you ultimately want to do. Invest your time and resources in your own development. The time you spend, and the price you pay for good advice, information you need in order to advance towards achieving your goals, is always well worth it.

2. Take the focus off of your limitations. We can come up with a thousand and one excuses as to why we can’t do something, We focus on what we can’t do, what we are afraid to do, what we can’t afford to do, and the list goes on. For every limitation you can think of, there are many other people out there who have overcome those same limitations.  You can do it, you just need to give yourself permission.

3. Understand that your ultimate level of prosperity is going to come to you when you are on the road you were created to travel.  Your profits are in your purpose. Begin to look at ways in which you can connect your who to your do. Once you do, you position yourself to embrace the abundance of the world, which is waiting to be released, when you live your life on purpose and in purpose.

Coach Yourself!

Maybe it’s time for change. If you hate your job and need a change, start thinking about what it is you really want to do. Your thoughts will eventually create your reality. You don’t have to hate your job, you may simply just want to do something else, and that’s ok too. The idea is to get you to think about what’s next for you in terms of your career goals, write those goals down, then decide each day that you are going to do at least ONE THING each day in honor of that goal.
